The Challenge
The client needed a platform that could serve thousands of concurrent exam sessions with reliable timing, anti-cheat detection, and instant result scoring — all while remaining fast enough to load under 2G connections common in target markets.
Our Solution
We built a Next.js App Router platform with server-side question rendering (preventing source inspection), a custom exam engine with per-question time tracking, and optimistic UI updates for instant feedback. Prisma + MariaDB handled the exam state with row-level locking to prevent double-submission. NextAuth with JWT handled multi-role access (students, instructors, admins).
The Results
The platform launched on schedule and hit 10k registered users within 90 days. Exam completion rate increased from 61% (legacy platform) to 84%. Average session load time: 680ms globally via Cloudflare CDN.
