The Challenge
The client's operations team was manually reviewing 50k+ PDF documents per day — contracts, invoices, and compliance filings — leading to an 8-person backlog team and a 72-hour processing SLA that was falling short of client expectations.
Our Solution
We built a LangChain-powered extraction pipeline with GPT-4 for semantic understanding and a custom fine-tuned classifier for document type detection. A human-in-the-loop queue handled the 0.8% of edge cases the model flagged as low-confidence. FastAPI served the pipeline with async job queuing via Celery + Redis. Full audit trail logged to PostgreSQL.
The Results
The backlog team was redeployed to higher-value work. Processing SLA dropped from 72 hours to under 4 minutes. The client passed their SOC 2 audit with the audit trail as a key control.
